September is Chronic Pain Awareness Month

September 19, 2007 at 1:16 pm (helpful tips, myself & I, opinions, rambling, reflecting, resources)

The Chronic Pain Connection has an interesting Art Exhibit they are featuring for the month of September. I have submitted a written piece. It’s just something small, I hope to get people over here more so then I hope to win the contest. Like I have said before, my main goal of this blog is to bring more awareness to MHE and other chronic pain disorders and illnesses like it. I want to give people someone to relate to. I want them to read my posts and say, “Ya, I’ve been there!”

And for those who read my posts and haven’t been there, I want them to say “Yes, I understand!”. I know it is difficult understanding things that are alien to you; things that aren’t happening to you so you don’t know how to react or treat the person. I know it’s difficult choosing the proper words sometimes, but an important thing to remember is have empathy. Keep an open mind. I can’t stress this enough, one of the worst feelings in the world is feeling as if the person you are talking to thinks you are complaining for attention and just doesn’t understand even a little bit what you are going through.

One of the other ways I stay strong despite all the pain, exhaustion, and isolation I feel throughout one day is by dreaming. My dreams, my hopes, and my goals help me get out of bed each morning. If I can help change one thing about someone’s life for the better, then life will be all the more worthwhile.
